Name: Ramjet
Series: Convention Exclusives
Allegiance: Decepticon
Alternate Mode: Cybertronian Jet

Thanks to Griffin for loaning me Ramjet, making this review possible.

JET MODE
Height: 3.5cm Length: 9cm Width: 8cm

A white repaint of Starscream available only at BotCon 2005, Ramjet's colours don't really match his G1 namesake as Starscream's and Skywarp do, instead they line up to Universe Ramjet. The nose is black, the wings and an area around the cockpit are sky blue and his canopy is silver. There's a Decepticon logo stamped behind the cockpit.

This jet is roughly an arrowhead shape with twin-finned tail that tapers to a single point, which makes this a rather warped pyramid overall. This a vastly scaled down version of the original Supreme Cybertron Starscream, which is obviously rather simplified. Despite the simplification, the two weapons available on the larger toy are still available. A black gun swings out from underneath the left side wing while a sword swings out from the right side. There's no mechanism here, nor any Planet Key slot - you simply fold the weapons out yourself - but it's nice that this toy has these two weapons. There are no wheels nor any other play value.

The plane mode is pretty simple and does all it has to. The repaint doesn't feel all that natural, partly because the colours aren't one of the traditional seeker sets, and partly because they're trying to homage a Universe toy. The weaponry is good at this size, mind you.

TRANSFORMATION TO ROBOT MODE

Swing out the nose to reveal the boots, flip up the nose halves to form his feet. Fold the rear down to reveal the face, rotate down the tail. Swing out the arms and flip out the forearms. This transformation scheme matches that of the larger toys (with some simplification), which makes a mockery of the idea of a Supreme Starscream.

ROBOT MODE
Height: 8.5cm Width: 7.5cm

Again based on white and resembling the TFU Ramjet. The torso is now mainly blue with a silver canopy and some white around the edges, the boots, head and upper arms are white while his thighs and forearms are black. The shoulderpylons are yellow while his face and feet are painted black. The Decepticon logo is central on his chest, and is easy to discern, unlike his facial details which are totally lost amongst the black paint. I can't say I'm a huge fan of this colour scheme - especially with the face as it is.

The robot proportions are quite good, and the weapons again fold out from the wings on his arms. There are tiny holes in his fists, even though Ramjet doesn't come with detachable weapons. The poseability is pretty good here - the head turns while the shoulders, hips and knees are ball jointed. The elbows can only swing backwards as part of the transformation while the feet can swing down, which is also part of the transformation but is useful in robot mode.

That this robot mode is well formed with good poseability again mocks the gigantic version of this design. The poseability makes this a fun robot mode, while the twin weapons are useful. The colour scheme is kind of ugly and the paint on his face is just a mistake, making this a fairly poor repaint.

VARIATIONS

   None that I'm aware of.

OVERALL

As a BotCon toy, the whole point of Ramjet is exclusivity. Just as well as this is a rather mediocre repaint. The mould is quite good, but the much cheaper Starscream or Skywarp toys serve their names better and have better colour schemes. This half baked repaint, which comes with Skywarp instructions, is my least favourite version of the mould and one can't get excited about - 5/10
