Alternate Mode: Police Car

Thanks to Morkus for loaning me Prowl, making this review possible.

POLICE CAR MODE
Height: 2cm Length: 7.5cm Width: 3.5cm

A white sports car with a black front bumper featuring Prowl's signature "widows peak" on the front. He has black on the doors, with "HIGHWAY PATROL" above the black and "POLICE" in white in negative space on the black painted area. Sadly the black doesn't extend to the fenders or below the doors - it looks pretty cheap, really. There's a red lighter on his roof and the windows are painted metallic blue and there's a mini rubsign on his hood between metallic blue headlights. While I understand that Legends toys are always limited in terms of the paint job, I really hate how they've painted the doors but not the fenders or running boards underneath - Prowl would have looked a _lot_ better if they'd simply not painted the doors and just printed all the text in black. Okay, the lack of taillights would still hurt, but it wouldn't look so incomplete.

I'm not sure what sort of sports car this is, in fact I strongly suspect it's generic. The detailing is fairly minimal and the play value is limited to rolling him on his black plastic tyres. I don't expect any more play value for a Legends car mode, mind you.

A very limited car mode, and while most Legends vehicles are limited, the paint job is sparse and poorly executed. On the upside, it's clearly Prowl thanks to the widow's peak on the front - perhaps the only shining light of this paint job. The mini rubsign is helpful and well positioned, but otherwise this is a fairly poor vehicle mode.

TRANSFORMATION TO ROBOT MODE

Pull out the doors to form arms, fold out the rear to form his boots & flip up the feet. Fold the front down to form his chest & reveal the head. Position the arms and you're done.

ROBOT MODE
Height: 8cm Width: 5.5cm

A white robot with black forearms, a black groin and black on the front of his chest, Prowl's metallic blue rear window is now split on his shins while the headlights & rubsign are on his chest. The face is silver with red antennae. This colour scheme closely follows that of G1 Prowl, although it's simplified. While the vehicle mode colour scheme looks unfinished, it looks better here.

The layout is familiar as Prowl, although there are some divergences from G1, consistent with those of Universe 2.0 Prowl. The side windows are fixed into position protruding behind the shoulders. Poseability is decent, with ball joints in his shoulders and hips while the knees and ankles are hinged.

A simple robot mode with a good paint job. The tribute is well executed and the paint job defines this toy as Prowl. Poseability is about what we'd expect from a Legends toy.

VARIATIONS

   None that I'm aware of.

OVERALL

A fairly simple Universe Legends toy, and a disappointing one really. The vehicle mode's paint job is awful and while the robot mode's paint job is good he still falls short. The robot mode looks nice enough, but it's not good enough to make up for his poor vehicle mode. I should stress that there's nothing extraordinarily awful here; just nothing inspiring to overcome the awful vehicle mode paint job. I'd recommend skipping this one and tracking down the Deluxe version of the character from the same line instead - 5/10
